Insurance Company: We Are Alternative to Obamacare

Posted: Updated:

Here at news 5, we've met many who are outraged at insurance plans being canceled, higher premiums, and of course, website issues.

"People here in south Alabama, really all over, think there's not alternative to Obamacare. And there is," says Bob Walsh.

Bob Walsh works at Jack Green Insurance—a company trying to make it known they're a viable alternative to the big boys—Obamacare and Blue Cross and Blue Shield. One of the benefits—more physicians to choose from.

"If you go through an exchange, there are many doctors and hospitals that won't participate," says Walsh.

Most doctors in Mobile accept their insurance just not those in the University of South Alabama System. Walsh has seen firsthand the confusion and disappointment with other options and strive to help.

"People sit right where you are and start crying because of the premiums, they can't do it. And we offer them a plan where they can have the Obamacare and we offer them plans that will help them with the deductible."

They also promise higher reimbursements levels for doctors.

"Healthcare.gov, to read certain records, will only pay a doctor the equivalent of $24 an hour. A doctor can't run his business on $24 an hour."

And that reimbursement level is one of the reasons we're seeing so many physicians leaving the healthcare industry. And starting January first, doctors will begin seeing a 24% cut in those reimbursement levels in Medicaid and Medicare.

"People may not realize about Medicaid, as it stands right now is that it does not reimburse the physician enough to really break even from a business stand point. So because it costs us money to take care of Medicaid patients, we have to limit the number of patients we see," says Dr. Clayton Lane with the Alabama Orthopedic Clinic.

As for Bob Walsh, he says time will tell if what they're doing is actually working.

"We think we are. We think we are, but Obamacare does not come into effect until January first."

They've seen an uptick in business lately, Walsh says he gives quotes to at least 20 people each day. If you'd like to see what they can do for you, you can give them a call at 251-344-5393.
