One Killed In Chevron Refinery Fire

PASCAGOULA, Miss. -

Officials say the person killed this morning was a Chevron employee. The incident happened in one of the cracking units in the refinery.

A 50th anniversary celebration was planned for tomorrow. No word yet if that event will be canceled or postponed.

 

3:30 am

One person was killed this morning after a fire at the Chevron Pascagoula Refinery. According to a statement from Chevron, the fire started in one of the refinery processing units around 2am Friday. Officials say the site is secure and the community is in no danger.

Chevron has not said if anyone else was injured in the incident. The company says it will not release the name of the victim until the family has been notified.

News 5 has a crew headed to Pascagoula and we'll update this story as more information becomes available.
