Coast Guard Rescues 3 People from Sailboat in Gulf

Posted: Updated:
Mobile, AL - U.S. Coast Guard officials say they rescued three people and a dog from a vessel that was taking on water off the Alabama coast in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a radio call Sunday that the sailing vessel Second Chance was taking on water about 50 miles from Dauphin Island.

Crews launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, an HC-144 Ocean Sentry air crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile and a boat crew from Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island.

The Coast Guard says the HC-144 air crew located the sailboat to safely remove the three people and the dog. They were brought back to Dauphin Island, where they were met by family and friends.

There were no reported injuries.
