CALVERT, Ala. -

One of the largest employers in the region may be one step closer in selling it's plant in Calvert.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the German steel company Thyssenkrupp is in advanced talks with a leading bidder.

TK put the steel mill up for sale several months ago..

The plant opened for business back in 2010, and apparently has lost a lot of money.

The leading bidder to buy the Calvert plant is a company out of the small European country of Luxembourg.

The TK steel mill employs about 2,000 workers.

TK shares the site with the Outukompu Stainless Steel Plant, which used to be a division of Thyssenkrupp.
