Carny Worker Arrested Trying to Break in West Mobile Homes

Posted: Updated:

Police say a man in town working at the Gulf State Fair was arrested over the weekend trying to break in a house. It happened in the 6900 block Providence Drive North

Investigators say the suspect, Ruan Devries, tore off a screen to the porch and kicked in the rear patio door. They say the homeowner turned on a porch light and scared Devries off. He was apprehended by responding officers.

They say the suspect was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was an out of town worker for the Gulf State Fair on Cody Rd. Upon being interviewed he said he was looking for his bunk house.

Police say he also attempted to break into a home in the 700 block Providence Dr. E. They say Devries attempted to force entry to the front door. When unsuccessful they say he went to the back and threw patio furniture into the pool.

He also rummaged around at three other addresses in the area.  He's charged with burglary, attempted burglary and criminal mischief.
