RALEIGH, N.C. -

For months, Kat Robichaud has had to keep a secret from her family and friends.

Only her mother and husband knew that secret. But Tuesday night, the world finally learned what she'd been keeping to herself for so long, and that moment came as she sat with her closest friends.

"I was just sitting there really quietly, and everybody was cheering and watching," Kat explained of watching her Battle Rounds performance on "The Voice." "And then when CeeLo said my name, everybody in the room just screamed and I kind of just curled up in a ball."

The Concord native, who has lived in Raleigh since attending North Carolina State University, was tasked by her coach with performing Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" for a chance to move forward in the singing competition.

The performance, which had her trading verses with teammate R. Anthony, was taped several months ago, but her fans -- the appropriately named "KatPack" -- didn't get to see or hear the results of that Battle until Tuesday night.

How long, exactly, she would have to wait was even unknown to her. NBC runs a tight ship and doesn't tell the show's contestants when their episodes air until a week before the date.

Until then, she was sworn to secrecy.

Still, the singer said she was cool with the mounting anticipation.

"It's nice to have a secret," she laughed. "It makes it special."

While Kat is still holding on to a few more secrets -- like if she makes it through the Knockout Rounds -- one thing everyone seems to know is that Kat Robichaud is a serious contender to win this competition.

After her performance, CeeLo praised Kat and R. Anthony, saying they "both did an exceptional job." The coach spoke highly of R. Anthony's precision, and referred to Kat as a "dynamo" adding "I need a natural disaster like you, I need a storm like you."

"Natural disaster," of course, was meant as a compliment for the rising star.

"Anything coming from CeeLo is a compliment," she said.

As for her next secret, we'll have to wait and see how Kat does in the Knockouts when they begin later this month.
