Proposed Rule Would Change Ala. Abortion Licensing

Posted: Updated:
A proposed rule in Alabama could require that more doctors register as abortion providers.

The state Department of Health has proposed reducing by the number of abortions that doctors can perform in private practice before they must obtain a license as an abortion provider.

Doctors do not require such a license unless they perform 30 or more abortions during any two-month period in a calendar year.

AL.com reports the proposed rule would require doctors to get a license if they perform 10 or more abortions per month, or more than 100 in a calendar year.A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for Oct. 24 in Montgomery.
