BayFest Still on Smaller Venues Canceled

BayFest Still on Smaller Venues Canceled

Mobile, AL -

With Tropical Storm Karen making it's way to the Gulf Coast, BayFest is still scheduled. However, there are a few changes. Acts scheduled to play at smaller staging areas have been canceled.

"The performances on the Gospel, Launching Pad, Jazz and Café stages will be cancelled due to the unpredictability of (Tropical Storm Karen) and the need to focus on the main stages' logistic needs," BayFest President Bobby  Bostwick said. "Also, some people may think it's easier to deal with the smaller stages but as far as safety, it's not."

The decision to not set up the smaller stages was done to ensure the acts on the bigger stages - Coke, AT&T/Southern Ford Dealers and Miller Lite/Wind Creek Casino stages - can perform while keeping the audience, acts and crew safe.

"Bayfest's number one priority is safety for the public, the artists, crews, patrons - everyone," Bostwick said. "Mobile is under a hurricane watch - not a 'warning.' The local National Weather Service office is advising us that the storm is weakening and currently, the timing of landfall is approximately 10 p.m. Saturday night. At the moment, it may not even turn into a full hurricane. The nature of hurricanes is that predictions can change dramatically in a matter of hours."

BayFest officials will be meeting at 4 p.m. with city officials, EMS and the National Weather Service to make a decision about the rest of the weekend.
