Watching Tropical Storm Karen With Curiosity

GULF SHORES, Alabama -

Many locals don't get too worried when a tropical storm or a minimal, Category 1 hurricane threatens, but vacationers sure do get excited!

Visitors from as far away as California stopped by the main public beach in Gulf Shores Thursday to check out the action in the Gulf of Mexico.

Red flags are flying at all public beaches. Red flags indicate dangerous rip currents and rough surf.

City officials are watching Tropical Storm Karen closely. EMA officials urge locals and visitors not to panic with this storm, but to have a plan in place if severe weather threatens.

Coastal flooding and beach erosion are possible concerns associated with Karen.
