Pregnant shooting victim dies at Tampa hospital

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - Brianna Anderson, 22, a woman who was in her third trimester when she was shot on Wednesday afternoon died at Tampa General Hospital on Wednesday night, Tampa Police said.

A Tampa Police Department spokesperson says a suspect is in custody for the shooting.

Officials say an officer spotted the suspect's vehicle in the southbound lanes of Interstate I-275. Police say they initiated a traffic stop on the suspect who led police on pursuit until officers executed a PIT maneuver causing the suspect to crash at Selma Ave. and North Mayfield Ave. Officers say no one was injured in the pursuit.

Police say they believe the shooter was the passenger in the vehicle. Detectives say they have taken both the driver and passenger to Tampa Police Headquarters for questioning.

A police spokeswoman says the shooter faces a Murder charge.

Police say the shooting happened at 919 Chestnut Street in Tampa.
Police earlier had confirmed Anderson had died. Emergency officials were able to revive her on the way to the hospital.  She was transported to TGH where she had a c-section. Police added that the baby was doing well.

Maurice Harris saw the shooter exit the apartment. "The guy who actually shot her, I guess it was her boyfriend, he brought the baby across the street to her brother and handed him off and he just took off running," he said. Harris said the 3-year-old boy kept repeating the same phrase. "He's been saying my momma's been shot. He just keeps saying, my momma's shot, my momma's shot. That's what he's been saying."
