Tractor trailer crash on Interstate 81

WYTHE COUNTY, VA -

UPDATE:

The driver has been identified as 60 year-old Luther G. White of Lenoir, NC.

Lenoir has been charged with 

Reckless Driving Failure to Maintain Control as a result of the crash.

They are only going to close the shoulder of the road at this time; both lanes of I-81 are open. Please use caution in the area and check VA 511 for updates.

Virginia State Police  are working on a tractor trailer crash on Northbound 81 at the 82 mile marker in Wythe County.

According to police,  The truck was coming from I-77 onto I-81 when the driver ran off the road to the left and went through the guardrail in a curve.

Police are asking that drivers please use caution in this area for the next few hours while the truck is removed.

The driver was taken to Wythe County Community Hospital by ambulance.
