Mobile City Council Votes Down Saenger Management, Will Revisit

Posted: Updated:
Mobile, AL -

The Mobile City Council says no to SMG/Huka Entertainment taking over the Saenger Theatre, for now.  The council voted 3-4 in favor of the contract but since it needed five votes it failed.  John Williams, Bess Rich and Gina Gregory voted no.  Gregory initially wanted the vote to be held over for another week but that motion failed too.

SMG Officials say the city is losing money and high profile acts by continuing this delay.  Mayor Sam Jones says this contract is a "no-brainer" and the only option on the table to make the Saenger a viable location financially.

The proposal isn't dead.  It seems likely that the city council will reintroduce the measure next week with some changes.
