Robinson Island in Orange Beach Catches Fire

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - The popular recreational island, Robinson Island, caught fire around 1:40 p.m. Saturday.

As of 4:00 p.m., authorities say the brush fire has burned 5 of 12 acres of the island.

Crews had the fire contained just before 5:00 p.m.

Crews contained the fire by hand tools, portable pumps.

So far, no injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is still unknown.

Robinson Island is also a bird sanctuary. Many areas of the island are off limits to tourists because they are nesting sites to wading herons and terns.
