Second Officer-Involved Shooting In 2 Days

MOBILE, Ala. -

For the second time in two day police are investigating an officer-involved shooting.

Friday’s incident happened in the 700 block of Bonneville Drive in West Mobile, between Dawes and Schillinger Roads.

Investigators say they responded to a report of a prowler in the area. Once on scene, officers tried to tase the suspect but it had no effect on him.

“The suspect was then actually able to get the Taser from the officer and then began tasing the officer that's when officers then produced their handguns fired and killed the suspect on the scene,” said Cpl. Chris Levy of the Mobile Police Department.

Mobile Police have identified the man shot and killed this morning by officers. His name is Ray Anson Mitchell.

Family at the home confirms that Mitchell was a relative of theirs.

“It’s kind of a difficult situation and it's kind of hard to understand not knowing what happened,” said the Albert Turner, the suspect’s uncle. “It's just surprising because of him being in trouble or anything.”

According to booking records Mitchell was arrested multiple times on drug charges, most recently in 2007 and an arrest in 2004 for failure to obey an officer and resisting arrest.
