Update from police:

On September 5, 2013, 11:19 a.m. Mobile Police responded to southbound I-65 to assist the Prichard Police Department pursuing a stolen vehicle.  The driver of the stolen vehicle led officers to Azalea Road and Halls Mill Road where he abandoned the vehicle.  After a short foot chase, the subject exchanged gunfire with the pursuing officers.  The subject identified as 36 year-old Kenneth Lamar Bedgood was shot by the officers and pronounced dead on the scene.

Internal Affairs and Homicide Detectives will continue the investigation.  If anyone has information about this incident, please call the Mobile Police Department at 208-7211.

Mobile Police are on the scene of a deadly shooting. Police say a suspect was shot and killed by officers at the Montlimar Apartment complex at Azalea and Halls Mill Road. District Attorney Ashley Rich tells News 5 that some time this morning a bulletin was sent out a warning to police to be on the lookout for a white, Acura Sedan. Prichard Police spotted the car and a high speed chase ensued. The chase entered Mobile Police Jurisdiction.

After receiving word from Prichard about the chase Mobile Police joined in. The suspect pulled over at Montlimar Apartments on Azalea Road. The suspect fired shots at police two separate times. Officers returned fire killing the suspect. Right now we know the suspect is a black male. His name and age is yet to be released. It is believed this incident may have something to do with the murder of 45 year old Gary House earlier in the week at a nearby location. We will continue to update this breaking news story as more details become available.
