City of Mobile Audited Over Software Licenses

Posted: Updated:

City officials disagree with an audit from software giant Oracle.  City computers run Oracle software and thus the city has to pay for licenses to run it.  City officials say Oracle wants the city to pay twice as much for software licenses because the city is under a licensing agreement from 1999. Mobile’s IT head says that would double software costs for the city.

They want to hire a consultant to try and work out a better deal on licenses.  The consultant would cost roughly $25,000 whereas paying what Oracle is asking for right now would be an additional $200,000 according to city officials.
