2 Killed in Mississippi House Fire

Officials in Greene County are investigating a house fire that claimed the lives of two Greene County residents this morning, Friday, August 30.

According to Sheriff McLeod, Greene County 911 received a call from a neighbor reporting a house fire at 516 Loper Settlement Rd., State Line. Fire departments and emergency personnel from Wayne and Greene County responded to the residence.

Sheriff McLeod reported that two family members, Cynthia Franks (41) and Willie Pettis (62) both of the Loper Settlement community, lost their lives in the fire. A third person, Ms. Eleanor Franks escaped with minor injuries. 

The fire is being investigated by the Mississippi State Fire Marshal along with the Greene County fire investigator. The bodies of the two victims have been taken to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson for further investigation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
