A Mobile funeral home has surrendered its license and shut down after being accused of numerous violations in the way it handled bodies.
State regulators say Gilmer's Funeral Service of Mobile was cited for 1,512 violations of the Alabama Funeral Service Law.
Among other things, regulators say unlicensed workers were embalming bodies and directing funerals.
The Alabama Board of Funeral Services says owner Phillip W. Gilmer was facing revocation of his license and a minimum fine of $756,000.
The agency says Gilmer and the board reached a settlement in July and the business closed earlier this month.
The funeral home has since been taken over by Azalea City Funeral and Crematory.
