The driver, identified as Travis Deandre Grimes, 20, was advised why he was stopped and was asked to present his drivers license and proof of insurance.
An odor of marijuana is now smelled by officers coming from the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle produced a one-gallon freezer bag of marijuana, two boxes of sandwich bags.
At this point, Mr. Grimes and the passenger Joseph Emanuel May, 33, were arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana 1st, a felony due to the amount being for other than personal use.
An inventory of the vehicle is now done and a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm is found and it was determined to be stolen out of Mobile's jurisdiction two years ago.
Also found was a black bag with several packages of synthetic marijuana, a white bag of powder cocaine, which weighed over eight grams. The weight of the synthetic marijuana makes it Trafficking because the total weight is 28 grams or more.
The cocaine distribution charge is due to the weight being in between 8 grams and 28 grams. Mr. Grimes and Mr. May were mirandized and interviewed about the drugs and stolen handgun.
