Bonnie Tillman knew something was not right when Shirley Bowman knocked on her door at one in the morning Friday.

"She never spoke in a normal tone at any time. She always was almost screaming and just talking crazy stuff," says Bonnie.

Tillman's husband, Eugene had seen the woman earlier Thursday. Around 5:00 Bowman knocked on their door wanting to use his car.

"This lady was dragging her along. The little girl was crying for her mama. Evidently this must have been her granddaughter," says Eugene.

Eugene felt that the woman was not thinking rationally and sent her away. Hours later, Bowman showed up again. This time without the little girl.

"She came slamming, knocking the door almost in. Said she was an evangelistic, um, she wanted to come in, she had to come in."

That's when they called police. Authorities found Bowman quickly after nearby.

"When I started hollering, that's her, the police went running and they subdued her," says Bonnie.

"They told her to calm down. She was kicking at police and everything else. They finally strapped her down right in front of my house," says Eugene.

Bowman was taken to the hospital, then to the metro jail. By the time police arrived, the girl had already been strangled and left in the street.

"Other than pray for them, what do you do? It's sad. Very sad," says Bonnie.

It's believed the girl is still in critical condition.
