Crime Stats: Most Burglaries Never Get Solved

Posted: Updated:

New statistics are providing a closer look at crime in Alabama. The report was filed by the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center.

One statistic in particular jumped out. In Mobile County only 15 percent of burglaries ever get solved.

Detectives say it is a difficult crime to investigate because there are rarely witnesses and more than likely you'll never see you're items once their taken.

"If the serial numbers are recorded there is a much greater chance that you will, but if the serial numbers are never recorded unless those people are caught leaving the scene of that burglary or another burglary and happen to have the property the chances are very slim," said Lt. Paul Burch of the Mobile County Sheriff's Office.
