Elberta Police Officer Fired

Posted: Updated:
ELBERTA, Alabama -

A small town police officer is no longer on the force.

The Elberta Town Council fired Officer Ric Rouse Wednesday night. Town leaders say the veteran officer repeatedly used racially offensive language while on the job.

Sources tell News 5 Rouse used the "N" word while on duty for years- even after he was disciplined and even after he was ordered to attend "sensitivity training" meetings.

Sources also tell us Rouse was involved in a number of other questionable incidents- including damaging a patrol car during a police chase and not notifying the chief or follow procedure.

Rouse had been an officer in Elberta for five years.
