The outlook for tropical storm development has been increased to 5 days, from 2 days, at the National Hurricane Center. The Tropical Weather Outlook is a daily discussion from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) that covers what is happening in the tropics and the chance for depressions, tropical storms, or hurricanes to form.
This discussion is widely used by meteorologists in the United States, and in other countries impacted by tropical storms. Any person can access the information online at the National Hurricane Center or on other NOAA websites.
Technology and a better understanding of tropical weather allows a look farther ahead. Note that the outlook is not a guarantee. It is a projection of the most likely future scenario, based on what is known at the moment.
The graphical version of the Tropical Weather Outlook on the NHC webpage will remain at 2 days. This change is not related to the forecast cone, used for active storms.
