Bentley: GOP Must Reach, but not Alter Ideas

Posted: Updated:
MOBILE, Ala. -

Alabama Go. Robert Bentley told a group of young Republicans from around the country that the party has to reach more young and non-white voters.

But the Republican governor says the pathway to more votes isn't abandoning conservative ideas.

Bentley spoke in Mobile on Saturday during a national meeting of young Republicans.

He criticized national political gridlock and said much of Washington, D.C., is paralyzed by a lack of leadership.

But Bentley also told the National Young Republican National Convention that congressional Republicans should stand firm against the Baa administration.

Republicans control the House, while Democrats control the Senate and the White House.

Bentley, a dermatologist, had a particularly harsh assessment for Baa's 2010 health care overhaul. He calls it the worst legislation Congress has passed in his lifetime.
