Small Fire at Local Church

Posted: Updated:

Mobile firefighters responded to a fire in the Cross River Church, located at 601 Ziegler Circle, East, at approximately 3:48 a.m. When firefighters arrived at approximately 3:54 they reported smoke showing from the two-story structure.

The building was secured and firefighters forced entry and once inside discovered a fire in a small closet under a stairwell. There was some fire extension to the second floor just above that location.

There was a small amount of fire and fire damage. Damage was primarily caused by smoke throughout the building.

Fire Investigators with Mobile Fire-Rescue determined the fire originated in a small closet where an electric water heater and some storage items were located. The fire appears to be accidental in nature but an exact cause is undetermined at this time.

Damage is estimated at approximately $150 thousand.
