Nodine Files Bar Complaint Against Newcomb

Posted: Updated:
BALDWIN COUNTY, ALABAMA -

Former Mobile County Commissioner Stephen Nodine has filed an official complaint with the Alabama Bar Association against Former Baldwin County District Attorney Judy Newcomb.

Nodine was charged with killing his mistress Angel Downs in 2010. After a mistrial, Nodine accepted a plea-deal to perjury last fall and is now serving two-years of work release at the Baldwin County Jail.

In his complaint to the Bar, Nodine accuses Newcomb of the following:

  • Lying under oath during a misconduct hearing by claiming handwritten notes were not hers.
  • Failing to disclose exculpatory evidence… or evidence that did not support an indictment
  • Intentionally trying to taint the jury pool by intentionally making numerous false statements to the media.

"I do believe that there's civil action that needs to be taken to hold these prosecutors  and the system in check," said Nodine. "Make them responsible for wrongly prosecuting somebody that they have to pay the price, as me and my family has had to pay the price."

Nodine is also asking Attorney General Luther Strange, who took over his prosecution, to file charges against Newcomb.

Nodine says if he had known then what he knows now about how the prosecution of his case was handled… he never would have agreed to the plea deal.

Newcomb tells News 5 "Mr. Nodine's allegations are false and simply a repeat of false allegations he has made for years that have been found to be without merit."
