FOLEY, Alabama -

"Very scary and we ramped up very quickly," says Foley fire chief Joey Darby.

An explosion just before 8 o'clock inside Plant One at UTC Aerospace in Foley.

Hundreds of employees were evacuated. Two requiring medical attention according to Darby. "One with somewhat minor injuries treated at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center the other with extensive injuries lifelfighted to USA Burn Center."

No names have been released.

News Five has obtained photos from inside the plant after the explosion. A witness says it was a welding accident that sparked the blast.

The photos show a 55 gallon drum that shows signs of bulging and marks where it was cut with a torch, a blood smear on the floor.

A UTC spokesman says the employee was cutting metal and that caused the accident.

"There was no fire when we got here," says Darby. "The employees acted quickly to mitigate the situation. UTC is back to full operation."

The blast was contained to one area of Plant One. Some employees were unaware anything had happened.

Chief Darby says a massive accident at an industrial plant such as UTC is always in the back of their mind and so they train constantly.

UTC does have it's on response and safety teams but when they call the fire department it's a critical situation says Darby.
