City Suspends Girl Softball Teams After Brawl

Posted: Updated:
Mobile, AL -

The city of Mobile is taking action against two girl softball teams after a melee broke out at Sage Avenue Park Tuesday night leading to the arrest of one parent.
It happened at the end of a game between 14 and 15 year old divisions, The Texas Street and Hillsdale Park Teams.

Sarah Bowen, an assistant coach for The Texas Street Team, recorded video of the violence.

Mobile police arrested Xylina Pendleton and charged her with third degree assault for biting Dorothy Sloan in the stomach.

Bowen says the brawl started when a member of The Hillsdale Park Team pushed a girl and punched her in the face.  That's when parents and others ran onto the field and jumped in.

The city is suspending both teams for the rest of the season..saying both teams violated The Mobile Parks and Recreation policy prohibiting the entrance onto the playing field to dispute a call by officials without permission.  Spectators are also not allowed in the dugout or on the playing field during games.
