Fire at Tampa condo leaves 8 families without home, closes roads

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A fire that broke early Wednesday morning at Manhattan Palms condominium in North Tampa left eight families on the street and closed North Manhattan Avenue between Hamilton Avenue and West Broad Street.

Firefighters with Hillsborough County Fire and Rescue and Tampa Fire and Rescue are battling the fire. Tampa Electric crews had to disconnect power in the near-by buildings when Building 2 of the condo complex became engulfed in flames.

According to the HCFR report, in addition to the eight families who had lost their homes, 32 apartments are affected by the evacuation and power loss.

Officials told us, Hillsborough's Office of Emergency Management and Red Cross are at the scene and coordinating with apartment management helping the displaced families.

Firefighters do not have any information on what caused the fire. They will notify us when the roads open for traffic.
