Senate Approves Bond for Murphy HS Repairs

MONTGOMERY, Alabama -

One of the bills passed on the final day of the legislative session will send millions of dollars to help repair Murphy High School.

The education bond provides $15 million for repairs at the school.

Crews have been onsite working on the campus since the Christmas Day tornado hit the school, trying to get it ready for the start of the next school year.

"It is so critical for this bill to go through, for us to make sure that we repair Murphy as it needs to be repaired and brought up to all Alabama building codes," said Martha Peek, superintendent for Mobile County Public Schools.

District officials say the funds will be mostly used to fix up buildings not attached to the main structure, like the band room and the auditorium.
