Packing Up and Clearing Out the Hangout Festival

Packing Up and Clearing Out the Hangout Festival

Posted: Updated:
The beach oasis is being cleared out. The beach oasis is being cleared out.

The sounds of Hangout have changed. Gone are the driving drum beats and screaming fans. Instead, a steady rhythm of front loaders and work crews have taken their place....

"I think it was just as good, " says founder and organizer Shaul Zislin. "I think it was a really special vibe. I think that Stevie Wonder set last night was really special, really one of my favorite sets of all time Hangout."

Crews are working around the clock to tear down, pack up and move out all signs of the festival.

"The festival maybe over and the people who were here enjoying it maybe going home to their normal world but we've still got a lot of work to do at the beach," says Grant Brown with the city of Gulf Shores.

Roads in front of the beachfront are closed again tonight to allow trucks and heavy equipment to move more freely. By Tuesday morning all roads around the Hangout will be open again for good. "It seems to be getting better. We are making less changes as we go. We don't have to reinvent it again and again. We are fortunate that we have a lot of the same people coming back year after year. Everybody is getting into a better groove," says Zislin.

By Thursday, when the beachfront reopens to the public, there will be few reminders the festival was ever here. Then the plan for Hangout festival number 5.

"For the next 48 hours still all about Hangout 4," says Zislin. "Then some off time and come strong again. I hope."
