GULF SHORES, Ala. -

Improvements to Alabama's beachfront Gulf State Park are getting closer to becoming reality.

Gov. Robert Bentley holds a ceremony at Gulf Shores on Tuesday afternoon to sign legislation that will allow for a lodge and meeting facility to be built at the park.

The signing will take place in the parking lot of the old park lodge, which had to be demolished because of major damage caused by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.

A projects committee will begin to decide the best way to choose who will build the new resort.

The administration says more than $85 million in BP oil spill coastal reclamation funds will be used on the hotel development and other enhancements at Gulf State Park.
