FOLEY, Alabama -

A domestic violence case ends with a shooting in Baldwin County Monday night.

Foley police say Barry Garret shot his 27-year-old stepson, Thomas Kingsley, after Kingsley came after him with a pair of scissors.

It happened on Helton Drive just off County Road 10 in Foley.

Police tell News 5 the stepson was airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola after the bullet hit him in the upper abdomen.

Foley Police Chief David Wilson says Kingsley does have a history of mental illness and alcohol was involved in Monday night's shooting.

The victim does have an arrest record.  His record shows he was booked in the Baldwin county jail in 2006, 2009, and 2012 for domestic violence.

The district attorney's office is conducting an investigation. No charges had been filed against the stepfather as of Monday night.
