Baldwin Farmers Are Monitoring Recent Weather

BALDWIN COUNTY, ALABAMA -

Burris Farm Market in Loxley depends on the weather for their business. Strawberries and corn are just a couple of the items that are struggling this year thanks to a recent cold snap.

"It slowed the corn down a little bit, normally this would be our first weekend to have fresh corn. We're about 2 weeks away from the silver king corn that everybody knows," said Rick Stewart who owns Burris.

Stewart says the heavy rains we've seen over the last month have virtually ruined their strawberries.

"It's not sitting down like it used to so," he says.

He's not alone. Just up the road in Daphne other farmers have noticed a change, too.

"I grow all of this produce for my market so the sooner I can get it up there to the market the better it is for me," said Vince Allegri.

"The cold weather just has everything slowed down a little bit. You can see burns on leaves. It hasn't hurt anything it's just set things back a little bit. It may be 5 to 7 days before we start with anything that could've been ready a little quicker," he continued.
