PSC Begins Review of Alabama Power Rates

PSC Begins Review of Alabama Power Rates

Posted: Updated:
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -

The state's utility regulatory board has started a review of Alabama Power's rates after completing one for rates for Mobile Gas.

Members of the Public Service Commission said the recently completed review of Mobile Gas will likely lead to lower rates, with a decision coming by September.

The review of Alabama Power rates started Wednesday with a discussion of its rate stabilization plan. The PSC started the plan 31 years ago to provide small, periodic changes in rates rather than big swings. Commission President Twinkle Cavanagh said the commission won't scrap the rate plan, but may make modifications. She says the review won't include environmental issues, such as the use of coal. The review is scheduled to end in July.

The PSC intends to review Alabama Gas rates next.
