Two weeks ago a gas barge exploded on the Mobile River. Last week that barge was moved to Chickasaw to be taken apart for scrap. Today a crew was still working to get rid of large chunks of the barge that were blown off in the explosion. At least two large pieces of the barge were thrown 50 feet into the water. They have been pulled from the muck but now a crew has to cut the metal into smaller pieces. That way it can be hauled away for scrap.
The barge explosion seriously injured three men. Investigators are still trying to determine how a spark ignited gas fumes two weeks ago.
