5 Facts About Honor Flight South Alabama

Posted: Updated:

We are counting down the days to the next, and last Honor Flight South Alabama.  Honor Flight South Alabama 9 is scheduled for May 8th.

In our 5 Facts about Honor Flight South Alabama:

Dr. Barry Booth, Director of HFSA, talks about the number of people who have played a part in making the Honor Flight program successful in Mobile.  He also talks about the memorials the World War II Veterans visit while in Washington.  They include the WWII Memorial, The Korean War Memorial, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, The Marine Corps Memorial (Iwo Jima) and Arlington National Cemetery.

Dr. Booth also relates what a sight it is when the veterans return home to a rousing reception by thousands of family and friends at Mobile Regional Airport.

HFSA has taken more than 850 World War II Veterans to see their memorial in Washington.  The WWII Memorial wasn't dedicated until 2004, some 60 years after the War ended.  That meant it was difficult for many veterans of the war to visit because of financial or health problems.

The Honor Flight program is an all Volunteer program that relies on donations and does not charge WWII veterans any money at all for the trip.
