County Animal Shelter at Emergency Levels

County Animal Shelter at Emergency Levels

Posted: Updated:

The Mobile County Animal Shelter has an emergency situation going on right now. They are completely full and are overcrowded with unwanted pets. The shelter is supposed to house around 130 pets, and right now they have around 175. Kennel Technician, Corey Gillespie says, "It's really hard to provide the one on one attention that every dog needs when you have 200 animals and a staff of 5-10 people."

The staff at the shelter is forced to put down over 40 percent of the animals that come through the doors. They have recently been criticized by rescue group for the high number of euthanizations, but they say they don't have a choice. Andrew Stubbs, the Animal Resource Supervisor says, "We tell people all them time. Come get them. We will get them altered. Just come get them so we can make room."
