Aerial Footage of Damaged Fuel Barges

Aerial Footage of Damaged Fuel Barges

Posted: Updated:

News 5 flew over the damaged fuel barge on the Mobile River this morning as soon as the scene was declared safe and the FAA lifted the Temporary Flight Restriction for the downtown area.

Our aerial footage shows extensive damage to the barge- one piece of the vessel was tossed and thrown more than a hundred yards down a side channel of the river in one of the explosions.

From our vantage point, the scene looks secure- we only saw one fire truck on the scene and one Coast Guard cutter the river near the accident site.

Crews have put out protective boom around the barge as a precaution if a fuel spill or oil leak is discovered.

News 5's Pat Peterson will have more aerial coverage from the barge explosion tonight at 5 and 6.
