Candlelight On The Delta

Candlelight On The Delta

Spanish Fort, Alabama -

One by one, candles lit up the delta night, each being held by someone hurt by crime.  Family members of crime victims on both sides of the bay met on the causeway at 5 Rivers Delta Tuesday night.   They shared stories, many weeping as they talked about crimes that took loved ones away from them.

Tracey Goens lost her father in 2007.  Bobby Wilson was beaten, robbed, and murdered at his Spanish Fort Gas Station.  "He was a special man.  He had a heart of gold", said Goens.

Baldwin County Sheriff Hoss Mack also attended the vigil in honor of Deputy Scott Ward killed in the line of duty in 2012.  But, that wasn't the first time crime has stolen someone he loves.  "My grandfather was murdered on June the 6th 1982, in Escambia County, Alabama..which is why I got into this line of work", Sheriff Mack told the crowd.

The vigil led by Baldwin County District Attorney allowed people to connect with others who can truly feel their pain.  "It creates a sense of community.  Actually, I'll quote my 8 year old, it makes them feel not so along because it makes them realize other people have gone through it", said Dixon.
