World War II Veteran Turns Evangelist after Iwo Jima

Posted: Updated:

William Addis gained his distinctive raspy voice from a Japanese sniper's bullet.  He was serving on the island of Iwo Jima during the epic World War II battle as a combat Marine.

The Marine who now lives in Millry, Al will be among many other veterans on the last Honor Flight South Alabama, set to take off on May 8th.

Addis said he promised to serve the lord while in a foxhole on the island.  He kept that promise as an evangelist for 44 years.
