MOBILE, Ala. -

Mobile's 226th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade has been deployed to Afghanistan. The group consists of 190 soldiers, and they are members of the Alabama National Guard.

The Brigade was escorted today by the Patriot Guard. They boarded planes Thursday morning and are heading to Ft. Hood. From there, they will be on their way to Afghanistan.

Wednesday family and friends sent the troops off at an official deployment ceremony at Fort Whiting.

"I just always felt like I needed to give back like I needed to serve and for me this is my way of fulfilling that,"said 1st Lt. Allison Burke.

They'll be deployed for about a year.
