Local Soldiers Headed To Afghanistan

MOBILE, Alabama -

The U.S. is making preparations for a draw down in Afghanistan, but as circumstances remain un certain there local troops are head into the war zone.

The Alabama Army National Guard's 226th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, out of Mobile, has been called to active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

About 190 men and women will leave for Afghanistan this week.

The 226th will have a departure ceremony in Mobile at the Fort Whiting at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The 226th has played major roles in Afghanistan and Iraq over the past decade. The Alabama National Guard has called more than 21,000 personnel to active duty since September 11th.
