Democrats, Republicans Weigh-in on Mitchell Comments

MOBILE, Alabama -

Both Republicans and Democrats are weighing in about the e-mail comments made from Representative Joseph Mitchell.

In which he referred to white people as murderers, rapers and incestuous. Republicans are calling for Mitchell to step down. Meanwhile democrats are distancing the party away from Mitchell.

"This is an embarrassment, this is a national embarrassment to have a legislator having these kinds of comments in this day and time, it's strictly racist and Alabamian won't stand for that type of racism," said Alabama GOP Chairman Bill Armistead.

"It was very very offensive and it alarmed me because we don't that type of activity. We are supposed to be about bringing people together to work together for the common good of all," said State Senate Minority Leader Vivian Figures.

Mitchell himself has not talked on camera about the incident, but did confirm to the Associated Press that he wrote the e-mail.
