18-Month Old Inside Home When Meth Lab Exploded

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama -

From the outside of unit 146 at Arrandale Apartments in Robertsdale you'd never know a working meth lab had been cooking inside earlier this morning. The only way police found out was when the meth lab exploded.

"A very dangerous and volatile situation," said Rex Bishop with Robertsdale Police.

A dangerous situation for those living in the adjoining units, but also for an 18-month old boy who was inside the unit when the fire broke out. Police say Summer Miller is the child's mother. She and her boyfriend, Jared Sims, were both arrested on scene.

"The subjects never called 911, never called the fire department, tried to get the fire put out on their own if it were not for neighbors they may not have been called. The actual call came from neighbors who saw smoke and knew that they were in danger," said Bishop.

Both individuals are booked into the Robertsdale Jail. They're expected to be moved to Bay Minette Thursday morning.

The Department of Human Resources has custody of the child until family members can arrive from out of town to pick him up.
