Wet Start to Holiday Weekend

Wet Start to Holiday Weekend

MOBILE, Alabama -

Prepare for some wet weather to start the weekend. It won't be a washout but half the area gets wet tomorrow, with heavier rain likely west of I-65. Tonight, there will be hit or miss showers and a few thunderstorms.

Temperatures will be near average for the weekend and fortunately Sunday and Monday won't be as wet. 9 years ago today, it was historic Hurricane Katrina. The center of the storm was far away but the wind and storm surge was here. Go to wkrg.com to see the Hurricane Katrina article with photos, weather stats, and more information on Katrina. There are no tropical concerns in the Gulf this weekend, and Cristobal is done.

Today was also the 14th anniversary of the hottest day in Mobile- we reached 105 degrees in 2000.

Just prepare for a wet start to the weekend. Use your free News 5 weather app to follow the rain, and remember you can see the radar with lightning strikes on our digital channel 5.2 (even without cable or satellite). Stop whatever you are doing outside, when lightning is nearby. Expect highs in the lower 90s and lows in the middle 70s. Sunday and Monday won't be as wet although there will be scattered thunderstorms.
