PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Highway Patrol says a drunk driver ran into two construction workers along U.S. 41 in Port Charlotte, killing one. Thirty-nine-year-old Jemel Gardener died a short time after the accident late yesterday. Twenty-six-year-old Christopher Allen Best faces charges including DUI manslaughter.

CHIPLEY, Fla. (AP) - Seacrest Wolf Preserve in northern Florida is billed as the largest such center in the Southeast. Owners Cynthia and Wayne Watkins say they raise their wolves to become accustomed to humans. For a $25 fee, they even let visitors mingle with a wolf pack at Seacrest near the town of Chipley.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A ban on importing live lionfish into Florida is taking effect.

Aquarium shops will be allowed to obtain new lionfish from divers instead.

MIAMI (AP) - Tropical storm warnings have been issued for Puerto Rico, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and other nearby islands as Tropical Storm Bertha approaches the Caribbean.

The storm's maximum sustained winds early today are near 45 mph with no significant change in strength expected over the next two days.
