MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Gov. Robert Bentley says he's assuring Airbus that it is still Alabama's priority - even though he's courting their competitor, Boeing. Bentley says he was up early today to work on Alabama's offer to lure Boeing's assembly plant for its new 777X aircraft to the Huntsville area. The state's proposal is due Tuesday.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama State University is interviewing finalists to serve as university president. Officials are interviewing Gwendolyn Boyd of Johns Hopkins University; retired Brig. Gen. Samuel Nichols Jr. of Virginia; and state Sen. Quinton Ross Jr. of Montgomery. Ex-President Joseph Silver was suspended before leaving with a $685,000 severance package after just three months on the job.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A funeral for a Birmingham woman who was fatally shot after an Iron Bowl party is scheduled for tomorrow. Authorities have charged 28-year-old Adrian Laroze Briskey with murder in the death of 36-year-old Michelle Shepherd. Shepherd's sister has said she was shot after joking about Alabama's loss to Auburn.
FORT PAYNE, Ala. (AP) - Republican state Sen. Shadrack McGill of Woodville has decided one term in the Senate is enough. McGill told the Times-Journal in Fort Payne that serving in Montgomery puts a strain on a family, and that contributed to his decision not to run in 2014.
