John Carroll moved into the 5A boys state championship game with a 45-to-43 win over Decatur today. Andrew Steele and David Owens each made 1-of-2 free throws in the final 4 seconds. John Carroll (31-5) will meet Williamson, a 47-31 winner over Erwin, tomorrow at 7 p.m. Steele -- who had 11 points -- hit his free throw with 4 seconds to play. Then, Decatur (27-6) was called for an offensive foul, sending Owens to the line with a second left. DeMarcus Covington led John Carroll with 15 points and eight rebounds. Rico Pickett scored 19 points to lead Decatur and had tied the game 43-all on a 3-pointer with 6 seconds left. Rolando McClain added 13 points and eight rebounds. In the second game, Williamson (31-2) was led by Nicholas Fairley's 12 points and 10 rebounds. Darryl Blackmon added nine points. Erwin (21-10) got 11 points and eight boards from Stephen Hall. Erwin made just 9-of-37 shots and trailed 23-11 at halftime.
