The BayBears and Huntsville Stars played just five innings Thursday, and the Stars won the rain-shortened game 8-3. Huntsville scored six runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning for the win. It snapped a three-game winning streak for the BayBears. Mobile scored first, on an RBI single by Jarred Ball in the third inning. Huntsville came back with six runs in the third inning, led by a three-run home run by Carlos Corporan. Ronnie Merrill's two-run home run in the fifth inning made it 8-3 at the time heavy rain fell on Joe Davis Stadium. The BayBears drop to 16-18, while Huntsville's win puts the Stars at 15-17. Friday's 10:30 AM game closes the series between the BayBears and Stars. LHP Greg Smith (0-0) starts for Mobile against Huntsville's LHP Lindsay Gulin (0-0).
